JV of URS Corp. and Areva win contract to replace 4 steam generators at Sequoyah NPP

URS Corporation (NYSE: URS) today announced that SGT LLC, a 50-50 joint venture between URS’ Washington Division and AREVA NP Inc., has been awarded a contract by Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) to provide project management, engineering and construction services for the replacement of four steam generators at the Sequoyah Nuclear Power Plant Unit 2 in Tennessee. The 4-year contract has a maximum value of $130 million to SGT LLC.

SGT’s engineering and planning activities will begin immediately with installation scheduled for fall 2012. The replacement services provided by SGT will include management and outage planning, design engineering, construction and craft management, and rigging and handling of the old and new steam generators. SGT will also be responsible for heavy haul transportation, fit-up metrology, and large-bore pipe cutting and welding. Each generator is over 67-feet long and weighs nearly 350 tons. SGT and its antecedent organizations have previously replaced steam generators at 20 other facilities across the United States.

“A steam generator replacement is an intricate operation that SGT has refined through repeated successful projects,” said Tom Zarges, President of URS’ Washington Division. “This award expands URS’ exemplary 16-year relationship with TVA, which has included providing engineering, construction, maintenance and operations services across their facilities.”
